Letter of Reference
from Kevin Hebert

March 5, 2009

Dear Peter,

As we are wrapping up the year, I have taken the time to reflect on the past 7 years that I have been teaching at Tennessee High School. I cannot imagine what this band would have been like without your guidance and leadership training. You have helped develop an expectation of my student leaders that is higher than most adult leaders in this country.

It has been an exciting process to see my students grow as leaders and as moral young adults. Each year the leadership seems to get stronger because of the standard that was set the previous year. Because of this strong leadership, I am able to delegate responsibilities to my students that I would normally have to take on myself. Now I am able to focus on teaching the students more effectively. Without this leadership, I would be forced to spread myself thin across the entire band.

Not only has the leadership training taught my students to become better leaders for the band, it has taught them to act more mature and professional. Now they are acting as role models for the band and the rest of the band is following in their footsteps. I can see this progression happening even with our freshman.

I cannot begin to express to you my gratitude for helping me over the past 7 years. The lessons that my students and I have learned will be cherished forever. Your guidance and friendship are very valuable to me. Please know that in this time of our financial crisis, I will do everything I can to continue working with you.

Your Friend,
